9th Grade Football Atlanta vs Gladewater

The Atlanta Freshman moved their District record to 2-1 Thursday night as they defeated the Gladewater Bears 28-16 at home. After a two-point loss last year, the Rabbs were hungry for a win against this team. The Rabbs received the ball in the first quarter and moved it down inside the 10 but were stopped on downs. The Rabbit defense took the field and struck fast. On the first play from scrimmage, Thomas Steward blitzed through the middle and hit the fullback as he took the handoff, forcing a fumble that was recovered in the endzone by Gladewater making it 2-0 with a safety. Atlanta got the ball and moved down the field quickly. Max Ebarb dropped back and hit Treyvon Powell on a 40-yard touchdown pass bringing the score to 8-0. The Rabbit defense pounced quickly again as Marques Banks intercepted a pass to the tight end and ran it all the way to the endzone for a 34-yard touchdown. Kade Wood caught the 2-point conversion pass from Max Ebarb making it 16-0 to end the first quarter. During the second quarter the Rabbit defense once again stopped the Bears on four consecutive downs as Connor Samples hit the tailback in the backfield to get the ball back. The offense got to work fast as Max Ebarb pitched the option to Jacobi Dickerson who ran 60 yards for another Rabbit touchdown on second down. The Bears got a late score in the half bringing the halftime score to 22-8.  The Bears once again scored on the Rabbits in the third quarter on a lengthy drive bringing the score to 22-16. The Rabbit freshmen then took control again as Dra Nelson took the handoff, broke a tackle and outran the Gladwater defense to score a 56-yard touchdown bringing the score to 28-16.  The Rabbit defense took over with three minutes left to play and played with an undeniable fire. Big stops by Thomas Steward, Hunter Clark, JJ Fields and DeGregory King set up fourth down for the Bears. On fourth down, the tailback hit the edge in hopes of scoring but was stopped when John Fields came up with a big hit for the Rabbits to end the game. Offensive standouts for the Rabbs were Dra Nelson, Jacobi Dickerson, Dylan Belk and Keyonte King. Defensive standouts were DeGregory King, Thomas Steward, Treyvon Powell, Jared Cowgill and Terrence Thomas.
