AHS Accounting Team Named National Winners of the Capitol Hill Challenge

Posted Date: 06/02/2021

The Atlanta High School Accounting Team has been named the National Winners of the 18th Annual Capitol Hill Challenge. U.S. Congressman Pat Fallon recognized them at the Texarkana Town Hall Meeting on June 2nd.

The SIFMA Foundation's annual Capitol Hill Challenge, presented by Charles Schwab Foundation, is an exciting national financial education competition (stock market challenge) for public schools that reaches every U.S Congressional district. The 2021 Capitol Hill Challenge took place online from February 1 to May 7, 2021. It teaches students the importance of saving and investing while promoting a better understanding of our government and fiscal policymaking. Teams manage a hypothetical $100,000 online portfolio of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ESG investments, and cash. They gain a deeper understanding of personal finance and economics and learn the value of the capital markets as they work together to diversify across asset classes and maximize the return on their portfolios. Students from all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico and Washington, DC, participated in this year’s Challenge. The program serves 15,000 teachers and 600,000 students annually.

The top 10 performing CHC student teams traditionally win a trip to Washington, DC in June to meet their Member of Congress and be recognized at an awards reception on Capitol Hill. Instead, a virtual ceremony will be held on June 9th. Team members include Valerie Mason, Clay Fant, and Jagger Dyer.

Dynamic market conditions made for an exciting competition!
