9th Grade vs. Tatum Football

After a few close and tough losses, the Atlanta 9th grade football team traveled to Tatum with victory as their goal. They succeeded with a 34-6 victory.

From the very first play, the Rabbs made a statement that they were there to win. On the first drive, Max Ebarb threw a 48 yard TD pass to Cade Fant putting the Rabbits up 6-0. The Rabbit defense stoned the Eagles and got the ball back in four plays after the Eagles fumbled on fourth down and Kade Wood came up with the fumble recovery that was caused by DeGregory King. Atlanta wasted no time as they marched down the field and scored when Dra Nelson ran an eight-yard touchdown. Once again the Rabbit defense held the Eagles to no score and got the ball on the 40. After a few positive plays, Romero Williams had an outstanding 26 yard touchdown run where he broke several tackles then broke free to outrun the Tatum defenders to the end zone. Dra Nelson ran in the two-point conversion.  The Rabbits kicked off to the Eagles, but the speed of the Rabbits prevailed when Connor Samples flew down the field and recovered the kickoff to give the Rabbs back the ball. The 1st quarter ended with a score of 20-0.

During the 2nd quarter it was defensive battle but the Tatum Eagles scored on a long pass to end the half with a score of 20-6 in favor of the Rabbits. During that quarter Jared Cowgill caused a fumble with a big hit that was recovered by Cade Fant. The Rabbits started the 2nd half on defense and quickly got the ball back as Cade Fant caused and recovered a fumble that he returned to the 10-yard line. The very next play Romero Williams scored his 2nd touchdown of the night when he ran the ball into the endzone from 10 yards out. The 3rd quarter ended with a score of 26-6.  The first series of the 4th quarter resulted in the Rabbit defense once again shutting down the Eagle offense. The Rabbits got the ball back and on the 3rd play from scrimmage, Max Ebarb threw a 54 yard touchdown pass to Keyonte King putting the Rabbs up 34-6 after Dra Nelson ran in the 2-point conversion. The next drive the Atlanta defense once again stoned the Eagles, but a facemask penalty caused the ball to be moved into the redzone. However, the Rabbit defense stood their ground and held the Tatum Eagles out of the endzone as the clock ran out when Marques Banks and Jordan Brigham made a big stop on the edge. During that final drive Davion Collins, Cade Fant, and Jay Joslin came up with big tackles for a loss.

Defensive standouts for the rabbits were: Thomas Steward, Dante Cook, Trayvon Powell, Cade Fant and John Fields.
