Anatomy and Physiology Course Syllabus

Unit 1


Language of Anatomy
This unit focuses on the terminology used in describing the parts of the body.

Unit 2


Biochemistry
This unit focuses on the organic compounds that we must use in order to support our bodies and keep them in homeostasis.

Unit 3


Cells
This unit focuses on the basic building blocks of our bodies and how they are specialized to keep us in homeostasis.

Unit 4


Tissues
This unit focuses on the tissues that make up the organs in our bodies and how they are specially designed to keep our bodies in homeostasis.

Unit 5


Integumentary System
The study of the skin, hair, nails and glands. This unit will include the structure and function of these organs and diseases.

Unit 6


Skeletal System
The study of the bones and the skeleton. It also includes the bone makeup and any diseases associated with the skeletal system. We will learn the majority of the 206 bones of the body.

Unit 7


Muscular System
This unit will include the makeup of the muscles and the theory behind the contraction of a muscle. We will also learn the majority of the muscles.

Unit 8


Nervous System
This unit includes the main components of the nervous system, the brain, spinal cord and nerves. It will include the functioning and structure of the parts of the nervous system. It also includes the special senses and structures associated with them.
It also includes the diseases of the system.

Unit 9


Circulatory System
This unit includes all the parts of the circulatory system, the blood, heart and vessels. It includes how it functions and diseases of the system.

Unit 10


Dissection
This unit will be used to compare the cat anatomy with the human anatomy through dissection.

Unit 11


Systems of the Body
This unit will include projects over the rest of the systems of the body.

What you need

  • spiral
  • computer
  • wide rule notebook paper
  • pencils and pens
  • folder

Classroom Rules

  • Be responsible.
  • Be respectful.
  • Cell phones will be turned in at the start of class everyday.  If caught not turning in cell phone, I will keep it until the end of the next class period.
  • Restroom passes are allowed during the last 5 minutes of class unless it is an emergency.  You are allowed three passes each semester.
  • No food or drinks allowed in class.
  • Do not use computers unless you ask permission or it is needed for the assignment.  Volume must be muted when using computers.  No earphones are allowed.

Late work policy- student handbook policy-

1 day late -20 points

2 days late -30 points

3 days late -40 points

4 days late -50 points

5 days late -50 points

work not accepted after 5 days…grade goes in as a zero

Make-up work

You are responsible for make up work.  Make-up assignments will be located in the make-up folder.  You will have two days to do makeup work.
