Strength of Atlanta - State Championships

Posted Date: 03/28/2018

On March 24, 2018, the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championships were held in Abilene. Strength of Atlanta was well represented by its lone competitor, Jacob Nash. Jacob entered the championship meet ranked as the ninth strongest lifter in the state. During the competition, Nash climbed into the seventh spot after the first lift. Jacob was unable to elevate his standing any further and did not medal. However, as a junior, Jacob will return next year and attempt to claim the top spot in the state of Texas. It should be noted that, just prior to leaving for Abilene, Jacob Nash  placed in several UIL academic events. The points that he contributed to the UIL academic team has Atlanta poised to win the district UIL championship.

In addition to Nash competing at the state championships, SOA received more recognition from the accomplishments of Dustin Williams. Each year, the THSPA awards eighteen scholarships statewide to deserving athletes who uphold excellence in the classroom and on the lifting platform. Dustin Williams was awarded the THSPA academic scholarship for Region 3 Division 2. Dustin will continue his education and athletic endeavors next fall when he attends Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Dustin will play football for the Warriors in addition to pursuing his degree in pre-law.

The 2018 edition of Strength of Atlanta enjoyed many successes, tremendous gains in strength, and garnered much recognition and respect around the state. The young men and women involved in the powerlifting program in Atlanta stand readied to take the region and state by storm in 2019!
